Thursday March 5, 2020

Unusually fun day for a Thursday. Started out with breakfast with Cody and Brad, a fun a treat for their mother! (Cody flew into Cleveland last evening, everyone made it back to bed by 1130 last night.)

The boys spent the morning at the camp moving some logs about and getting new totes of wood out of the trailers to beef up our storage supply. It was a really pretty today with some sunshine this afternoon. There was plenty of sap left over from last evening so they started a fire after lunch. They anticipated having about a 4 hour boil which was close to target.

They enjoyed the afternoon visiting and boiling...Megan stopped in (as she is enjoying spring break this week) as well as Scott for a visit. They appeared to be poster children for relaxation when Gerri arrived.
What you take pictures of while you are waiting for Walle to return.

This is how Katie's dog Teddy goes for a walk!

Ever wonder what you can fit in a jeep wrangler???  A lot. Specifically 4 12 packs of soda, a case of tea , a case of gatorade, a pan of jello,  2 extra jackets, 2 crockpots, a relish tray, a bag of taco fixings, a bag of apples, socks for Cody and an extra pair of boots for Amy. And 2 dogs with room to spare.

We started gathering at 5:30, Curt, Erin Tinleigh, Dave, Cheryl, Adam, Katie, Ted, Bryan, Brad, Gerri and Kelsey. Cody and Bob stayed at the camp working on the sap we had started.

Tinleigh had a wardrobe malfunction.

We had some fun imagining what was going through Tinleigh's brain as she makes this expression, Erin thinks she was responding to Brad's crazy driving....

Thanks to all for helping tonight. Sorry for the branch in the face treatment Curtis and Tinleigh.

The syrup is definitely darker today.

There is a fair amount of sand in the syrup (niter) that we are filtering out.

Bryan was given one job of watching the thermometer ....he ended up getting yelled at........that did not go well !!

Evan has been out of town on business and he returned to Cleveland in time to pick up Amy and bring her home with him (she took the same flight tonight that Cody took last evening). Glad to have them here! Evan, Kelsey, Amy and Gerri washed the dogs and worked on the blog here at the house. Rest came home from the woods sometime..was after midnight.

Total Sap Today: 450 plus 18
Total Sap To Date: 6,246 gallons
Total Syrup Today: 11 gallons as of the post time, more to come (plus 6.5 gallons more)
Total Syrup To Date: 132.5 gallons
Burn count Today: 2-Adams left arm and Brad's left hand
Burns to Date: 9

Bob says per phone at 1050 pm that they are going to boil the rest in tonight. He makes this sound like a burden. However in the background you can hear a lot of "man laughing". One topic of discussion was the fact Brad, Bryan, Cody, Bob and Phillip are very content to watch Adam work.
